We don't wait for people in need to come to us. St. Francis Medical Center's (SFMC) Healthy Community Initiatives bring comprehensive healthcare, social services, and family support services to children and families in their own neighborhoods. Currently St. Francis provides comprehensive services to school-age children at SFMC's Elizabeth Learning Center Medical Clinic and through health screening events held at more than 17 schools each year. Our Mobile Health Unit provides screenings at schools, churches and community facilities throughout SFMC's service area. Our health educators provide a wide range classes and presentations to students and parents, as well.
Comprehensive health services include:
Physical examinations and assessments
Diagnosis and treatment of minor and acute illness
First aid for minor injuries, including incision, drainage and minor sutures
Vision and hearing assessments
Immunizations and Tuberculosis Screenings:
- Childhood immunizations are provided on a regular basis as well as at special immunization events/clinics.
- Mental health services and family support services are provided in collaboration with the Children's Counseling Center.
- Health benefits assistance and physician referral services are provided in collaboration with the Health Benefits Resource Center
- Health education programs are provided for students and their parents. Topics include child abuse prevention, asthma, smoking cessation, dental hygiene and healthy lifestyle promotion.
