Children's Counseling Center

Experts at St. Francis Medical Center believe that every child deserves a happy childhood. Our children’s counseling center delivers comprehensive mental health care, including personalized therapies and medication when necessary, to meet the unique needs of children. Our goal is to restore children’s sense of well-being and instill confidence so they can grow up to achieve their full potential.

Problems such as depression or witnessing a traumatic injury can leave lasting effects on children’s emotions and the way they view their world. Many children are too young to put these thoughts and feelings into words, which is why it is important that they receive help from a team that specializes in their unique needs. Our team’s compassionate approach creates a comfortable, nurturing atmosphere that puts children at ease so we can fully understand what is troubling them.

Mental Health Services for Children at St. Francis Medical Center

We offer a wide range of services and a compassionate approach to help children and families manage mental health problems.

Services available at the children’s counseling center

Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

We help children ages 4 and up overcome emotional and behavioral difficulties related to serious injuries (trauma). There are many forms of trauma, including car accidents and violent crimes. We use a child-centered approach to help children work through feelings and regain a sense of security in their lives.

Therapy for Depression

Children with depression feel a sense of hopelessness about the world around them. We use age-appropriate techniques to help adolescents and teens ages 12 to 18 explore their feelings. Our goal is to help them gain the skills to recognize and break the cycle of negative thinking that causes depression.

Family-Based Therapy

If frequent arguments, physical force or other child behavior problems are disrupting your family’s life at home, we can help. Our Alternatives for Families program helps children and their caregivers come together and heal after domestic violence or abuse.

Field-Capable Clinical Services (FCCS)

A behavioral health crisis is a frightening experience. Children may feel they have lost control of their emotions and sense of well-being. We are able to reach out to children ages 4 to 15 in crisis and provide specialized mental health services in an office setting or a place where a child feels a sense of security, such as at home or in school.

Case management Services

Our whole-person approach includes addressing potential barriers that could get in the way of your child’s recovery. Case management workers and social workers coordinate helpful community resources, such as transportation, temporary housing and meal delivery services.

School-based Services

We work with select schools in southeast Los Angeles County to provide on-site mental health services. Our school-based services help children overcome mental health issues and eliminate barriers to successful learning.
